Sustainability
The way we build today has a lasting impact on the environment and on future generations. At Evolution5 we recognise the responsibility we have to our customers to operate sustainably and to the planet.
We know that if we don’t take steps to create change now, we could be living in a very different world in 10 years. Keep reading to see just a few of the things we’re doing to operate more sustainably and what we’re hoping to achieve in the future.
Working locally
Providing consultancy to projects in a 50 mile radius of our offices in Hedge End and London is important to us. It means less time on the road for our team and that we’re driving the importance of sustainable building in our local area. When we work further afield, we make sustainable decisions about issues such as travel.
Applying the latest technology
Being at the forefront of construction technology allows us to enhance sustainability within our client’s projects. We proactively help them improve the sustainability of their buildings by:
- Working with low-carbon consultants
- Assisting with life cycle costings when cost planning to factor in repairs, maintenance and end-of-life disposal
- Offering maintenance and replacements for building parts
- Supporting with construction design and management advisory services
- Specialising in converting buildings from commercial to residential
- Reusing brownfield/disused sites as alternatives to greenfield sites
The University of Southampton (UoS) Science Park had a very clear and challenging sustainability goal to achieve in 2023/2024. Read how we supported UoS to achieve this.
Carefully considered supply chains
Making sure the people we work with are the right fit for us and our customers is important. When considering supply chains, we make sure that partners are local to our projects to reduce the impact of miles travelled in the delivery of business whilst supporting the local economy through job creation
Sustainability at our offices and on-site
We only use recycled paper and have recycling bins located throughout our indoor spaces for staff use.
Modern, low-energy printers are fitted in our offices to help keep our energy outputs low. Using a renewable energy supplier for our office also supports us in our goal to operate sustainably.
Shared staff values
We believe that our employees should all benefit from our work to create a sustainable environment. When it comes to travel, our staff can choose an electric or hybrid company car, or to use public transport to remove the need to drive at all.
Staff consistently tell us that sustainability is important to them too. A big part of how they help to reduce our carbon footprint is by considering whether face-to-face meetings are required or could be brought online, reducing travel time.
For us, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a way of life. We’re committed to making a positive impact on the planet, and we believe that by working together, we can create a better future for everyone.
